It looks like they're automatically keeping track of your searches once you log into anything on their site. Granted, they've likely been doing this for a long time, and are just now letting us benefit from it too, but it still makes me jumpy.

Doh! Now they know what kind of pr0n I like!

Yeah, makes you wonder what kind of stuff they'll be able to data mine on me. I kinda trust them since they're google, but it's still somewhat worrisome. Better Google than DHS, though.

Ah, but what happens when the DHS subpoenas your search records?

Your search history is empty

Hmm ... looks like my web browser doesn't like the cookies (or whatever sort of persistant data) that they use to keep track of web history.

Of course, this doesn't keep me from being a little wary that they are actually matching up searches to individuals. Why can't they just keep it nice an anonymous?

This is largely a response to A9 - which is Amazon's search engine. This is one of its most popular features.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is an opt-in feature, no?

The ToS seems to imply that even if you delete your history, it still exists, but is just not publicly available. That, and pabw is trying his damndest to scare me ;-)

Is it actually an opt-in feature?

Given that you need to log in to use it...
