Have any of you ever flown Sun Country air? Did their staff seemed happy? We just got 2 roundtrip tickets from SFO to MSP for ~$350, *total*. Southwest charges $200 at the cheapest for one person, one way. It doesn't seem like a sustainable price difference.

I think I should mention at this juncture that Horizon serves free beer -- and decent microbrews, no less. I mean, cookies are great and all, but...

Yeah, Horizon is definitely MY favorite airline. I love evening flights to/from SFO and SJC.

I love Sun Country. I think they've had bankruptcy issues and there's always the chance they might disintegrate. Regardless, I love the Sun Country.

Sun Country filed for bankruptcy in 2008, and I haven't flown with them for years. So, things may have changed since then.

They fly out of a secondary terminal at MSP. Their staff are somewhat lower-paid than equivalent staff at major airlines. They operate somewhat on the Ryanjet model of reducing incidental costs and charging end users for what they consume.

They seem like a sustainable business and they weren't terrible to fly. The downsides are:
  • the rental car desk at their terminal sucks compared to the main terminal rental offices
  • their terminal is a bit less convenient to get to
  • their schedule is pretty terrible for my purposes
nowadays I find the schedule and convenience benefits of NWA to outweigh the price delta.

Thanks for the advice; hopefully they don't go to RyanAir-type extremes. Oddly enough, we picked them for the schedule first before noticing the crazy price :) (C and I wanted to get in early enough to spend the day at his parents' house, and redeyes are getting rare)

Not so extreme, no.

That redeye is kinda epic. If you're renting a car, beware that the rental desk doesn't open until an hour after you arrive. (Well, at least that was the case the last time I did it in ... 2006?)
