RLP - F*cking with Clusters

This song is so good it makes me shudder, even after having heard it thousands of times:

::throaty sigh::

Well I heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Chorus:
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Well Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
And she tied you to her kitchen chair
And She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Chorus

Well baby I've been here before
I’ve seen this room and I've walked this floor
(You Know)I used to live alone before I knew you
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
And Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Chorus

Well there was a time when you let me know,
What's really going on below,
But now you never show that to me do you?
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew is Hallelujah

Chorus

Well maybe there's a God above,
But all I've ever learned from love,
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you.
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Chorus

Sorry about the posting volume ... I'm having fun redoing a project from scratch thanks to last week's data munching adventure. (But I have a system that listens to vowels and classifies how much your singing sucks!)

I like that song. It's also sung by Leonard Cohen and, more recently, by Willie Nelson. Though nowhere near as good.

I really like Leonard Cohen in general, but this song wouldn't be the same without that "emo-ness", for lack of a better word, that Buckley has. (plus that awesome sigh...)

Have you heard the Imogen Heap version?

I don't know the version you're talking about, but it's a lot slower and quieter than the version i've heard. The copy i've got is 2:48 long but it only gets through two stanzas.

While we're talking about covers of this (fantastic) tune, I ought to mention Rufus Wainwright's. (I was drawing a blank on his name, so I entered [hallelujah ] in the Firefox search bar and waited for the Google-provided autocomplete suggestions to tell me what I wanted to know... god I love that feature.) I wanted to ask AllMusic about the song (particularly, about who else has covered it) but apparently their database just takes too damn long to build a 690-row query result.
